Judges Comments:
They're a little bit loose in feather, but they are opaline variety. This is a budgerigar exhibition. And what we're trying to achieve.
Cage S owned by B & M Wise from Victoria, a very strong budgie, lovely feather and cap release, good shoulder, nice depth of mask, and stood out.
Cage A owned by Peter Thurn from Victoria, is a little bit down on his actual potential in the show cage. He's a little bit rough around the mask. He is showing that little bit of length of feather, which associates with that coarseness through the spot area. He has a weird bit of ticking. We've allowed it to go through on the marker of the flecking. But it has a lovely line through. He has his faults, they all do. Not one bird is perfect.
Cage J owned by Holmes Family from South Australia, has got a lovely cap release. It's shorter in the mast, but he's a lovely budgerigar as well. A little bit of flecking. However, on the day the bird in A was that little bit longer and it gave a little bit more presence in the show cage, which is part of the exhibition bird. They have to have that presence and give the judge something to look at to come back to. This bird is a lovely clean capped opaline greygreen. We found that the greygreens were the stronger birds all the way through. He showed lovely depth of mask, good spot size. He also showed that clean capping, and he's got a lovely line through the perch, and he doesn't mind showing himself.
