Judges Comments:
Really nice class of albinos. Good to see very minimal to no suffusion of blue or grey through most of these birds. There's really only one or two that have got a slight amount of suffusion through them. It's great to see good variety right through the class.
Cage C owned by K McCalman from Victoria, the bird that's risen to the top today we've gone with is the Cockbird Cage C. He went to the front pretty early in the class and he stayed there, didn't move. Just a real complete budgie. As you can see, very long bird, his head is right up at the crease of the cage. He flows through the perch, thick right throughout, through the back of his ear coverts, really full face, super variety, lovely width of cap and skull, very good back skull.
Cage R owned by R & M Vidler from North Queensland, the hen in second did sit third for quite a lot of the judging as it went on. When she gets up and relaxes, she's a super hen. Such strength of shoulder, width of chest, and she does really come down lovely off that cere. She's got lovely feather quality, cuts a beautiful shape in the cage, and she's just a really big, powerful, strong hen that fills that cage up.
Cage E owned by P Thomson from North Queensland, a cock bird which originally was sitting second, then moved through to third. He was just down in the end for a bit of feather quality over the top. He's a real nice show bird, sits up at the desirable angle in the cage without having quite as much feather as that hen in second. That's what put him in the 3rd place today.
Cage B owned by Peter Brumby from South Australia, another cock bird placed fourth. A little down on variety, that bird, probably one of the better-faced birds in the class. Neale and I just like to stretch him out a bit, as he is a little bit short in the keel, just get him off the perch a bit more, and get him knuckling up on that perch and elevating himself. He probably would have placed a bit higher with a bit more body size to him.
Cage T owned by Lloyd Richardson from Victoria, another hen. There was a lot of hens in this class, which was really quite interesting, at least 50% or more of the class were hens, we felt she was one of the better hens. It's really solid and thick throughout. Lovely variety, good thickness of face, and a real tight, nice wing carriage on her.
Congratulations to all the exhibitors of birds in this class.
