2026 Class 24 - Dominant Pied ASC ASV

Judges Comments:

A very strong dominant Pied class some exceptional birds on that top row in particular.

Cage D owned by Craig Barnett from New South Wales, a dominant pied grey Green Cock, granted, he's not in probably the best of feather today. We thought that his condition was adequate, though. He's not the best in the show cage, he has a tendency to sit on the floor a lot. We left him alone for a while. He did actually get himself up onto the perch and showed what he had. He is a strong bird. The fair quality of this bloke, the feather length through that cap, the width of that cap, the downward directional feather, down to the mask. He sits up really well, and he does get up and perch, he's a magnificent budgerigar. Good outline and a worthy winner in this class.

Cage U owned by Jeffrey Leong from Victoria, Cage S owned by Holmes family from South Australia, A couple of hen birds, Dominant pied cinnamon greens, second and third in Cage, U & S. I wouldn't be surprised if these two are nest mates. They're of a very similar type. Magnificent hen birds. you can see they've been prepared properly. The condition is outstanding. The second, just getting over the third one today, a bit extra back skull on her, thickness straight through. They're so thick between their cap and that mask area, which we'd like to see that back skull really fitting in that mid piece. Big, strong shoulder hens, big bodied hens, and just really strong exhibits, so congratulations to the breeders of those two hens. They just got there today with a cock in first.

Cage G owned by Glenn & Lyn Ryan from South Queensland, which we really did appreciate for his width of cap and his back skull. Just a couple of things attracting there today, saw that mask. He's got a couple of slight feather roughs and just a bit of feather disturbances there. Just distracted a little from his overall shape and outline, which is why we loved the two hens birds there today. If that wasn't there, he may have carried into third position potentially, but we felt penalties really needed to be today with those disturbances.

Cage K owned by J & W Weidenhofer from South Australia, going on to the hen bird in fifth, dominant Pied opaline cinnamon, light green is really big, strong similar mould to the two hens in second and third. She's just carrying a little bit of head markings, which pushed her down the class a bit, but you've got to appreciate the feather quality, that length of that feather, really buff feathering, a really, really nice hen.

Cage A owned by Trevor & Toni Broadbent from South Queensland, a cock bird, which we really did appreciate. He's got a magnificent depth of mask. He really flows through the perch nicely, fills the cage right up at the top crease, today is just not his day, he's just a little too far out of condition. You can see the carers are trying to put the work in, but he's just a bit messy throughout that cap area, which took away from him today.

A very, very good class nonetheless, and well done to all the exhibitors.
