Judges Comments:

Tremendous class of lacewings, the top six or eight birds are absolutely fantastic. Good depth right throughout. Some absolutely stunning birds up the top end. Some really good varieties throughout, minimal suffusion in the class. By and large, the depth of colour is great.

Cage E owned John Ennis from Victoria, Leading off the class, we've got a lacewing, normal yellow hen bird. This bird is quite something. I really feel this hen, whatever colour you painted her, she'd stand up in any variety over this weekend. She is an absolutely outstanding bird. She is all power, she is so thick right through, that back skull is unbelievable. She just fills in so well back through the back of the eyes out that ear coverts area. She is in super condition. She's got it really timed to the minute, she is just really dialled in. She gets up and she displays herself. She's so wide through that cap, that downward directional feather, that hook off the cere is quite something to behold, she's an absolutely magnificent budgerigar. And as much as this class was strong, she did win it pretty comfortably in the end.

Cage P owned by John Ennis from Victoria, We've got a lacewing yellow cock in second. He's a super budgie also. He's in magnificent feather as well. He is really sleek and tight, good department. It goes down through that perch beautifully. The width of that cap is lovely, super directional feather, that depth of mask, the spot impact. He's a magnificent cock bird and just unlucky to run into that super hen on a day.

Cage B owned by George England in Third and Cage A owned by Schutz & Tonkin from South Australia in fourth place, we had two, lacewing Opaline yellow hens. Very little separating those two.  In the end, we just decided that the hen in Cage B, just a bit thicker through that top end than the hen in Cage A. Her depth of colour was just that bit deeper. Just a bit more fill around that eye.

Cage D owned by Chris & Elena Rogers from New South Wales, the cock in D, a lacewing yellow cock. A good size bird when he gets up and stands off the perch. He's got great length right through, good release of cap and length. He hasn't quite got the feather going on over the cere, as opposed to the four birds above him, but he's a really, really good example of lacewing variety.
